CFD Modeling of a Stirred Anaerobic Digestion Tank for Evaluating Energy Consumption through Mixing

The anaerobic digestion process is an effective means to eliminate the detrimental impacts of cattle manure discharge into environment, i.e., biochemical contamination and substantial methane emissions, latter leading global warming. For proper operation digesters, efficient mixing provides a relatively homogenous mixture feedstock within tank. This study aims investigate total energy consumption needed for stirring by using asymmetrical mixer. A further objective analyze formation stagnant volume velocity gradient in digester order assure efficiency mixer type. computational model implemented as finite method, rheological properties are considered. results validated comparing on-site power with values obtained numerical torque. At various speeds, dead does not exceed 0.5% tank; however, increase rotation speed, increases drastically.
